<p class="mw-empty-elt"></p><p>The <b>Seed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3</b> is a microcontroller board based around the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESP32" class="extiw external" title="wikipedia:ESP32">ESP32</a>-S3 microcontroller. It is typically connected to a <a href="Wio-SX1262" class="mw-redirect" title="Wio-SX1262">Wio-SX1262</a> LoRa module to enable long-range wireless communication.

<p>The XIAO ESP32-S3 is supported by the official <a href="RNode" title="RNode">RNode</a> firmware as of version 1.82.<sup id="cite_ref-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> It is also supported by the <a href="MicroReticulum" title="MicroReticulum">microReticulum</a> firmware as of version 1.85.10.<sup id="cite_ref-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-2"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>2<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>

<p>Like most other microcontroller boards, the XIAO can be powered through its USB port. It can also receive 5 V power directly through its VBUS pin, so long as a diode is placed between the power source and the pin.<sup id="cite_ref-wiki_3-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-wiki-3"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>3<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>It also features solder pads on the back of the board for connecting a standard 3.7 V <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li-ion" class="extiw external" title="wikipedia:Li-ion">Li-ion</a> or <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiPo" class="extiw external" title="wikipedia:LiPo">LiPo</a> battery. These pads are very small, so a soldering iron with a fine tip is required. The small size of the pads also poses the risk of short-circuiting the battery. Shorting an unprotected Lithium battery can result in a fire, so a protected battery should always be used.
</p><p>When connected to 5 V power, the XIAO charges batteries at 50 mA by default. It also supports a trickle charging current of 3.8 mA.<sup id="cite_ref-wiki_3-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-wiki-3"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>3<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>

<p>Flashing the XIAO ESP32-S3 with RNode firmware can be inconsistent. The reset button may have to be manually pressed when the device is meant to automatically reset on its own during the flashing process. There are also different versions of the board, which may affect the flashing process. Some users have reported that flashing the device with <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://flasher.meshtastic.org/">Meshtastic's web flasher</a> followed by an <a href="RNode#Flashing" title="RNode">RNode flasher</a> can occasionally solve some issues.
